About San Diego San Diego is nestled in the extreme southwest corner of the US, bordered by Mexico to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Best known for is beautiful weather that averages 71 degrees throughout the year, many are surprised to find out that San Diego is California's second largest city and the eight largest city in the nation with 3.1 million people calling the city and surrounding areas home.
San Diego's economy is has diversified significantly since the 1980's, when it was primarily known for its large naval presence. While the US military still has a large presence, other economic sectors including agriculture, biotechnology/biosciences, computer sciences, electronics manufacturing, defense-related manufacturing, financial and business services, ship-repair and construction, software development, telecommunications, and tourism have become more prominent industries.
San Diego is also home to many universities including California State University San Marcos, PointLomaNazareneUniversity, San DiegoStateUniversity, the University of California San Diego and the University of San Diego as well as many smaller universities and colleges. All of which contribute to San Diego's ranking in the top 10 most educated cities in the US.
